California Energy Storage Alliance (CESA)

California Energy Storage Alliance (CESA) is a 501c(6) membership-based advocacy group committed to advancing the role of energy storage in the electric power sector. At 90+ members strong, CESA is the definitive voice of energy storage in California and the West. CESA operates as technology and business model-neutral, supported solely by the contributions and coordinated activities of its members.

Our Mission

CESA’s mission is to make energy storage a mainstream resource. We strive to advance a more affordable, efficient, reliable, safe and sustainable electric power system for all Californians.

Our Impact

Through our efforts, we have secured significant funding for energy storage projects, influenced key policy decisions, and driven the expansion of energy storage capacity in California.

Our Members

CESA is a coalition of over 90 members, including utilities, technology providers, project developers, and other stakeholders. Together, we work to build a resilient and efficient energy storage ecosystem.

Meet the CESA Team

CESA was founded in January 2009 by clean energy advocates and strategists with deep experience and relationships in the electric power sector. Since 2009 our passionate team has grown to include experts in utilities, wholesale markets, incentive structures and retail rate design. We strive each day to be responsive, helpful, and create value for our members.

Scott is a recognized leader in the energy industry, bringing to CESA extensive experience at two other leading energy generation and storage trade associations, and in the President’s office at the California Public Utilities Commission.

Rachel McMahon
Rachel McMahon
Vice President, Policy

Rachel has advocated and shaped legislation and policy related to alternative energy and the impacts of energy on the environment since 1999. She has also researched, managed and edited two published books on renewable energy and the hydrogen economy, and developed green building guidance for affordable housing developers and schools in post-Katrina New Orleans.
