California’s Battery Boom Continues!

California continues to lead the nation in energy storage deployment. The California Energy Commission (CEC) has released an updated Energy Storage System Survey, showing installed battery storage capacity has grown from just 500 MW in 2018 to 16,942 MW as of July 31, 2025. This represents approximately 33% progress toward California's projected need of 52,000 MW of energy storage by 2045.

Today's installed capacity includes:

• 13,880 MW of utility-scale energy storage
• 2,213 MW of residential energy storage
• 849 MW of commercial energy storage

Energy storage continues to play a vital role in supporting California's electric grid by storing excess renewable energy for use during periods of peak demand, improving reliability, and helping advance the state's clean energy goals.
