Announcing the Release of the Updated "Energy Storage Survey" – California’s Battery Boom Continues

We are excited to share the release of the updated Energy Storage Survey, showcasing California’s remarkable progress in energy storage deployment. The state has added over 3,000 MW of battery storage capacity in the last six months alone, bringing the total to more than 13,300 MW – a 30% increase since April 2024 (Source).

This rapid expansion strengthens California’s ability to capture clean energy during off-peak hours and dispatch it during peak evening demand, enhancing grid stability and minimizing reliance on fossil fuel generation.

Key Highlights from the Energy Storage Survey:

• Current Battery Storage:
  • Residential: 1,354 MW
  • Commercial: 576 MW
  • Utility-scale: 11,462 MW
• Statewide Progress:
  • In just six years, battery storage capacity grew from 500 MW in 2018 to 13,300 MW in 2024.
  • The goal for 2045 is to reach 52,000 MW of energy storage capacity (Source).
