The Department of Market Monitoring (DMM) is hosting a stakeholder call on May 24, 2017 to share highlights from its 2016 Annual Report on Market Issues and Performance.
The annual report provides a comprehensive review of the markets administered by the California Independent System Operator. The 2016 findings indicated there was a 9 percent decrease in wholesale energy prices in 2016. This decrease was a result of a comparable decline in natural gas prices, improved hydro-electric conditions, moderate loads and 2,300 additional megawatts of new peak summer generating capacity. Overall, the report found the ISO and energy imbalance markets had continued to perform efficiently and competitively in 2016.
